Gigbite News & Gossip!-Updated once a month!

1st June 2002

Think summer is upon us once more, well, there's sunshine and heat and blue sky, so it must be.

The Spring Round of Battle of the Bands was won by Chrome, congratulations lads, award will be with you shortly.

Results are as follows:

The Jamming Arabs - 45.8%

The Summer round has just began and this month we have Sal, Graham Ede, Mellow Doubt and Nutonic, so get voting now!

COMPETITION TIME
We have a few copies of The Kennedy Soundtrack CD's to give away plus a few badges, all you have to do to win is mail us and tell us which band and song was the no. 1 single the day JFK was assassinated? (UK No. 1)

We get that extra bank holiday on Tuesday due to the Queen having the same job for the past 50 years and the finest of today's performers will be heading down to Buck House to wish her well in a big gig, with the likes of Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Brian Wilson and the great classical composer Mr Ozzy Osbourse, good to see there's still rebellion left in our music world.

But if you want to ignore all this, or fed up of the world cup already and Big Bro III is getting you down then check out what's been happening on Gigbite!

We have an exclusive interview with Remy Zero, the band that do the theme tune to Smallville, check out what they say here - Interview/Features

We have CD reviews from Clipper, Colours Made of Tears, Fleau, Gracie and much more, go check them out.

And Live reviews we have of Ricky, Antihero, Miss Black America, Wilco and more.

So there you have it, we are also looking for reviewers for the site, we are becoming much busier and would appreciate help in getting through the backlog of cds we have, so if we have any interested people wanting to review some great band and some not so great bands and can give an honest opinion then we would like to hear from you.

Have a good bank holiday everyone.

8th February 2002

Welcome to February's first news, in fact its the first lot of news we have posted in a while, whilst we have been busy adding new links, reviews and other things this part of the site has been neglected, but we are back and we are in full swing.

This month we have many new reviews such as 'A,' Helen Watson and Candy Anagram. We have an exclusive interview from Jimmy Eat World, plus there are a few more demo's reviewed.

Also visit the guestbook and leave us your messages and any suggestions you may have on improving the service we provide.

Until next time, have a good month.

25th Septmber 2001
A band we should be keeping an eye or our ears open for this month is South Wales band Samu Hung, exciting female fronted punk band that are signed to Townhill Records, their gonna be big so remember where you read that first.

As we have been quiet on the music front we have been quite busy recruiting and adding to the site and the fruit of our labour will soon be in bloom, we have been busy contacting bands, companies and our ever sought after wannabe journalists. So remember that this site is the work of the Gigbite team, but we cannot make it work without the help of you guy's out there, so keep us posted on whats happening where and when and we will see you all soon.
30th August 2001

Well, July and August have flown by (hence why this news bulletin is combined). We've all been busy looking for new bands and new reporters to add to the Gigbite family. We've been quiet this month and last as we've been dealing mainly with the American market. Reviewing bands such as AM60 and Beulah has been a pleasure.

We have been invited to the Beulah album launch party this Friday (31st Aug). Their new album 'The Coast is Never Clear' sounds great and has plenty of fresh ideas. The gig, also with guests Murry the Hump, El Goodo and Cubare takes place in the small Welsh village of Resolven; its a thank you to their army of loyal fans from the village who hired a coach and followed them around the UK on their last tour. The first track is even named 'Hello Resolven' as a tribute. Keep an eye out for the review of the album and launch party very soon.

Also, some of you may have followed my advice on how to survive the festival-(advice can be found in the features section)

well, why didn't I follow my own advice?
After arriving at the Reading Festival on the Thursday at around 4pm, I walked slowly to the festival site. I was greeted by the sight of little skate kids and Eminem look-alikes. I hadn't been their two seconds and I was soaked. So I just found a nice bit of green space to set up my tent. Once the rain had stopped, I thought it would be a good time to go exploring (The Setup has changed alot since the last time I went).

So I walked around, watched the drunk bungee jumpers fall from the sky and then decided to go and get some cans, from the big lorry outside, to keep me company. Walking back to my tent I decided on getting my wrist band. After queuing for half an hour, I was happy...safe in the knowledge that I was all set for the weekend. I then went to retire for the evening with my food and cans. Except, walking back I put my hand in my pocket:

(shock horror) where was my wallet?
It wasn't there, panic set in. I walked back to the place I got the wrist band from and there was no sign of it, now I was getting depressed. I had my wrist band and I had enough food and drink plus about £4 so decided that I could survive one day and walked back to the tent.

(shock horror) So where was my tent?
There was no sign of it either (I hadn't even started drinking by this time so I can't blame the drink). I looked everywhere, for 2 hours I looked for it - a blue Eurohike tent, one of thousands. Soaked, skint, and with no train ticket, I decided I was going home. I got to the train station and explained my situation. The B**** behind the counter of Reading station was having none of it, may I repeat B**** B**** B**** AT READING STATION, (YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!)

After trying (with no luck!) all my friends and the gigbite team to see if they could lend me some cash for the train ticket, came that dreaded call to mummy. She saved my life so best get her something nice for her birthday this year. So, as everyone else was having a good time at the festival, probably safe and warm in their tents with their cans and generally having a good time, I was heading back to Cardiff with my 3 cans of lager and feeling a bit depressed. I never cried, im 'ard you see (we know better! ed.) Waiting for me at the flat was the Beulah CD and the new AM60 single which cheered me up. So instead of watching the likes of Eminem (and the look-a-likes), Ash, King Adora etc. I am sat at home updating you all on the Gigbite news and writing reviews of some pretty damn good stuff. Not all bad!

Well, there's work to be done. The reviews/interviews don't write themselves! So until next time. This is the reading failure signing out!

29th June 2001

Hi there people, welcome to the updated Gigbite and its been a quiet month. The Sun has been out and making us all too tired to do any work and the choice of bands down here in Cardiff has been limited.

A good gig that happened in June was Murry the Hump at Clwb Ifor Bach, with support from Resolven's El Goodo and a band we're going to be hearing a lot more of in the future - Gwacamoli. Barfly was quiet this month, plenty of bands playing, just nothing much that made us go, hmmm, lets go to that gig. So this leads me to beg our readers to contribute some more, send us your reviews, demos and Interviews if you have any. Until next month, see you later aligators!!!

23rd May 2001

This month, we have been very busy indeed. In our second month of operation we have had literally hundreds of emails from bands asking to be reviewed. Because of various other commitments (i.e work and uni- oh yeah and having a social life!) we haven't be able to get to as many gigs as we'd like to. We picked a selection of gigs to attend and we hope you like the reviews. We have been very lucky so far with the gigs that we've been too-they have all been great entertainment picking out Hub Ush and Talisman as my personal favourites (and Wyns favourite- 'Proud Mary' the only band he's been really excited over so far!). Remember if you go to a gig then send us a review (make sure you let us know the date, name of the band and the location of the gig) e-mail bands@gigbite.co.uk.

We'd also like to welcome B and Heulwen to the gigbite team. We are looking forward to reading their reviews (you can also read Heulwen's work in Culture Magizine- very good it is too!)

AND...Gigbite gets a make over! With a few more options to choose from we are hoping that the new layout will be easier to use. Make sure you let us know about your band.

4th April 2001
